You ARTist you!
Choose an ARTIST name
Countless artists have gone before you and I will explain why.
Saying what you think and doing what you want. You may have gotten into trouble for it. I certainly have.
Artists in whatever form have also noticed this and therefore choose to write, sing, sculpt and paint under a pseudonym.
Li-be-ra-ting
Sometimes expressing yourself is easier if you just take on a different role. So stick on your moustache, hang up that boa and put on a glitter suit. Step outside the lines and choose a name that will help you do that.
stART
Think about your hobby or traits
Look up your name in another language such as Latin
WHO ARE YOU?
Or do you choose to be
Scramble the letters of your name.
Who's your hero?
Do you have a nickname?

What's your favorite food?
How do you come up with it?
Take your TIME
Grab some newspapers and magazines and start cutting out the letters of your newly chosen ARTIST name.
Do it neatly: everything in the same color or size.
Do it loosely: choose different sizes
BUT: stick to the colors of your PP. Or don't do that... who cares, it's your AJ
Stick them on the front as the title of your AJ

Personal Palette
Persoonlijk Palet
A Personal Palette is a great way to give your art journal a cohesive look. It consists of your three favorite colors, supplemented with black and white. By using these colors as a base, unity is created automatically - even if you work with different materials and techniques.
In this lesson you will create your personal palette and we will make an art journal spread of it. This way you will lay the foundation for a style that suits you completely.

You will experiment with as many different materials as possible. Using a select amount of colors will create unity throughout your AJ.

Choose your 3 favorite colors
Add BLACK and WHITE
1,2,3,4,5....hoppa this is your Personal Palette
AJ = ART JOURNAL
PP = PERSONAL PALETTE
COLOR1 = very favorite
COLOR2 = also very nice
COLOR3 = the accent color that goes well with it
And it is precisely by limiting yourself that your brain will have to work. CREATIVITY FLOWS Because -well- if you don't have a color, you will have to solve it differently.

Messing around
A new journal?! That's scary!
No, silly. You just have to start with something easy so the novelty wears off and you’re not afraid of failing. I promise you: it will happen. And that’s okay!

Using the three colours of your PP, create three spreads with material of your choice.
PAPER?
PAINT?
CRAYONS?
INK?
Then you have already filled nine pages and you can later write, draw, stamp, cry over, stick stickers on them... in short: 'Whatever you want, darling'.

Apply a layer of white gesso over it so that you can use them later as a writing page.

Make some small doodles, stamp or stick (letter) stickers to decorate the edge and/or background

Colorful collage
Mindlessly cutting pictures helps to shut up your brain
Aaaaaaaaand CUT
Browse through magazines and cut out as many pictures as you can in the colors of your PP that appeal to you. Collect them in your SCRAP folder and make a nice composition later in one go.

TIP: Save your clippings by color in different folders right away. Or put them in separate envelopes in your Scrapmap
Most of the time is spent on the preparation, but that probably also gives the most pleasure. If you teach yourself to keep your PP as a focus, you will notice that the colors suddenly stand out everywhere. So you are actually always busy with your Art Journal, fun right?!

Jij ARTiest jij!
Kies een ARTiestennaam
Talloze kunstenaars gingen je al voor en ik ga je uitleggen waarom.
Zeggen wat je denkt en doen wat je wilt. Je bent er misschien al eens door in de problemen gekomen. Ik wel in ieder geval.
Kunstenaars in welke vorm dan ook hebben dat ook gemerkt en kiezen daarom te schrijven, zingen, beeldhouwen en schilderen onder een pseunoniem.
BE-VRIJ-DEND
Jezelf uiten gaat soms makkelijker als je jezelf even een andere rol aanmeet. Dus plak je snor op, hang die boa om en hijs je in een glitterpakje. Ga buiten de lijntjes en kies een naam die jou daarbij gaat helpen.

Denk aan je hobby eigenschap
Zoek je naam op in een andere taal zoals Latijn
WIE BEN JIJ?
Of wie kies jij te zijn?
Hussel de letters van je naam door elkaar.
Wie is jouw held?
Heb je een bijnaam?

Hoe verzin je 'm?
Neem lekker de TIJD
Haal er een paar kranten en tijdschriften bij en ga de letters van jouw versgekozen ARTiestennaam uitknippen.
Doe het keurig: alles in dezelfde kleur of grootte.
Doet het losjes: kies verschillende formaten
MAAR: houd je wel aan de kleuren van je PP. Of doe dat lekker niet...boeijuh, het is jouw AJ

Persoonlijk Palet
Een Persoonlijk Palet is een mooie manier om je art journal een samenhangende uitstraling te geven. Het bestaat uit jouw drie lievelingskleuren, aangevuld met zwart en wit. Door deze kleuren als basis te gebruiken, ontstaat er vanzelf eenheid – zelfs als je met verschillende materialen en technieken werkt.
In deze les creëer je jouw persoonlijke palet en maken we hier een art journal spread van. Zo leg je de basis voor een stijl die helemaal bij jou past.

WAAROM een PP?
Je gaat met zoveel mogelijk verschillende materialen experimenteren.
Het gebruiken van een selecte hoeveelheid kleuren zal zorgen voor eenheid door je AJ heen.

Kies je 3 lievelingskleuren
Voeg daar ZWART en WIT aan toe

KLEUR1 = allerlievelings
KLEUR2 = ook erg mooi
KLEUR3 = de accentkleur die er tof bij past
En juist door jezelf te beperken, zal je brein aan de bak moeten. CREATIVITY FLOWS
Want -tsja- als je een kleur niet hebt, zal je het anders moeten oplossen.

Kliederkladder
Een nieuw journal?! Da's eng!
Nee joh, gekkie. Je moet gewoon beginnen met iets makkelijks zodat het nieuwe eraf is en je niet meer bang bent dat het mislukt. Ik beloof je: dat gaat gebeuren. En dat is ok!

Twee maal drie is vier
Wiedewiedewied en twee is negen! We willen allemaal onze inner-Pippi vinden die lekker los kan gaan en lak heeft aan regels.
Maak met de drie kleuren van jouw PP drie keer een spread met materiaal naar keuze.
PAPIER?
VERF?
KRIJT?
INKT?
Dan heb je dus al negen pagina's gevuld en daar kan je later op schrijven, tekenen, stempelen, overheenhuilen, stickers op plakken....kortom: 'Wat jij wil, pop'.

Je maakt op 8 spreads een achtergrond met papier uit boeken

Doe het niet te netjes, reliëf mag

Laat drogen

Smeer er een laag witte gesso overheen zodat je ze later kunt gebruiken als schrijfpagina.
Tip:
Maak wat kleine droodles, stempel of plak (letter)stickers om de rand en/of achtergrond te versieren
Nu of later kun je hier een dagboekfragment schrijven.

Collage in kleur
Gedachteloos plaatjes knippen is best MINDFUL (zonder zweverigheid)
CUT zeg
Blader door tijdschriften en knip zoveel mogelijk plaatjes uit in de kleuren van jouw PP die je aanspreken. Verzamel ze in je SCRAPmap en maak later in één keer een mooie compositie.
